Dated insurance policy scope

CIH published its lower-fee policy and separate deposit policy statements on 28 May 2018 and updated them on 16 October 2024. CIH said the lower-fee policy applied to uninsured patients and patients buying health insurance from Vietnamese insurers, only within Vietnam. CIH excluded international health insurance and products valid both inside and outside Vietnam, even when the insurer had a direct-payment agreement. Direct-payment-network cases

For outpatient care with an insurer in CIH’s direct-payment network, patients show an insurance card and identity document. CIH checks the supplied insurance information and benefits, then requests a payment guarantee only if outpatient benefits apply. The hospital says insurers usually reply within 30–60 minutes; that interval is not guaranteed and does not confirm coverage. ^[10]

For inpatient care with a direct-network insurer, CIH asks the patient to show an insurance card and identity document and contacts the insurer for a guarantee. CIH says insurers usually send the letter within 48 working hours after receiving all required documents. If it has not arrived, the hospital asks for a deposit based on estimated costs before admission or a procedure; the deposit is returned after CIH receives the letter. Cases outside CIH’s direct-payment network

For outpatient care with an insurer outside CIH’s direct-payment network, the patient pays the full treatment cost first. CIH says it supplies supporting documents and the medical record for a reimbursement request to the patient’s insurer. ^[12]

For inpatient treatment with private insurance outside the network, CIH asks for an estimated-cost deposit and may contact the insurer for direct confirmation. If no guarantee letter arrives before or on the discharge date, the patient pays the treatment cost. CIH then provides supporting documents and the medical record for a reimbursement request; this does not guarantee insurer approval or reimbursement. ^[13]

Deposit cases and top-ups

For the separate deposit policy, CIH lists self-paying patients, people using state health insurance and patients with private insurance outside CIH’s direct-payment network among the deposit cases. CIH may request an additional deposit if treatment costs exceed the amount already deposited.
