International insurance billing

For international insurance direct billing, the hospital limits the service to third-party assistance partners that have an agreement with Hanyang University Medical Center. ^[3] Patients are told to contact their insurer directly to request a guarantee of payment (GOP). ^[16] If the GOP reaches the International Clinic Center through a partner, payment can be deferred within the guarantee, although a co-payment may still apply depending on coverage. ^[17] If the centre has not received a partner-delivered GOP, the patient pays medical expenses in full first and then claims directly from the insurer. ^[18] The hospital accepts payment in Korean won or by credit card. ^[19]

After an outpatient service, the International Clinic Center processes insurer billing through an agency, notifies the patient of the next appointment and requests any additional GOP needed for that visit. ^[20] During an inpatient stay, if the GOP needs an extension or its guarantee limit needs to increase, the centre makes the request to the insurer through an agency. ^[21]
