International insurance and billing conditions
Severance’s IHC says direct billing is available for foreign-insurance holders whose insurer or institution has a partnership contract with the hospital. Before a visit, its IHC asks these holders to check coverage and exceptions with their insurer’s portal or call centre; records and MRI or CT images should be prepared if they will be submitted. [10]
For overseas-insured hospitalisation, the IHC says costs can be billed directly to the insurer holding the policy, while many outpatients often prefer pay-and-claim for treatment costs. [11]
When international insurance is contracted with Severance, the hospital asks patients to contact their insurer about a guarantee of payment (GOP). It says out-of-pocket payment may be needed if the GOP has not been issued by the service date. [12] If a patient’s insurer is not contracted with the hospital, Severance says the patient is responsible for self-payment. [13]
For Tricare holders who also have other health insurance, Severance describes Tricare as secondary and directs billing-use questions to its billing department. [14]
First-visit Korean National Health Insurance
For a first visit under Korean National Health Insurance (NHI), Severance says coverage applies only when a medical-care request form issued by a first-level medical-care institution or a health-checkup report with abnormal findings is provided. It asks patients to bring a referral letter or such a report. [15]
IHC doctors’ qualifications
Severance lists Bora Yoo as board-certified in Family Medicine, with a 2013 medical diploma, an internship at Severance from March 2013 to February 2014, Family Medicine residency at Severance from March 2014 to February 2017, and a Family Medicine fellowship at NHIS Ilsan Hospital from March 2017 to February 2018.
