The chosen hospital submits required medical documents to MHTC for review and approval before travel; MHTC says travellers also receive guidance on visa requirements and travel documents. [2]

Malaysia visitor services and travel routes

  • Tourism Malaysia describes the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) as established under Malaysia’s Ministry of Health and responsible for coordinating and promoting Malaysia’s healthcare-travel industry.[1]
  • MHTC says the chosen hospital submits required medical documents for MHTC review and approval before travel; travellers receive guidance on visa requirements and travel documents.[2]
  • MHTC says citizens of many countries can enter Malaysia without a visa for healthcare stays of up to 90 days. Check your nationality against its current list.[3]
  • MHTC directs travellers who require a visa to Malaysia’s medical visa process. Immigration Department terms define eVisa for Medical and limit eligibility by nationality; issuance and entry are not guaranteed.[4]
  • MHTC’s paid Meet and Greet package lets a patient bring up to two loved ones. The hospital must request it for the patient and submit the completed request, with a doctor’s or hospital treatment-details letter and return ticket, to MHTC at least three working days before arrival or departure.[5]

MHTC coordination and airport information

MHTC’s paid Meet and Greet package lets a patient bring up to two loved ones. To use it, the hospital must request the service on the patient’s behalf and send the completed request with supporting documents to MHTC at least three working days before arrival or departure. The documents must include a doctor’s or hospital letter specifying treatment details and a return ticket as proof of departure from Malaysia. The service is available at KLIA, KLIA2 and Penang International Airport; its team greets travellers, helps them settle in, answers questions and explains where to go next. [5] [6] [7]

MHTC lists travel and accommodation coordination, language support and cultural guidance under its concierge service. It says its concierge can arrange hospital appointments, hotel bookings and transport between locations. Weekday enquiry hours are 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Malaysia time; enquiries outside those hours receive a response on the next business day. [8] [9] [10]

Per-person fee is tax inclusive; up to two companions each pay the same rate. Agents/partners should contact MHTC for a personalised package. The hospital requests the service for the patient and sends MHTC a completed request with required documents at least 3 working days before arrival or departure: a doctor/hospital treatment-details letter and a return ticket proving departure from Malaysia. Any one of three qualifies for Special Lane access, MHTC says: patient from an MHTC member hospital, authorisation letter, or Meet and Greet package. MHTC does not guarantee visa issuance or entry.

Visa-free entry and medical eVisa steps

MHTC says citizens of many countries can enter Malaysia without a visa for healthcare stays of up to 90 days. Eligibility depends on nationality, so travellers should check the current country list. MHTC directs travellers from countries requiring a visa to Malaysia’s medical eVisa process. [3] [4]

For the medical eVisa route, MHTC says the traveller contacts an MHTC-member hospital for an English appointment letter with treatment details and personal information; the hospital provides an MHTC support letter. MHTC lists a six-month-valid passport, appointment and support letters, return ticket, accommodation proof and passport photo for the online application. After approval, MHTC says an email arrives and advises carrying both printed and digital copies. [12] [13]

For eVISA for Medical travel, the Immigration Department requires the patient and companions to show a passport biodata page valid for at least six months, the medical eVISA Note and eVAL printout, and an official appointment letter from an MHTC member hospital. It requests complete companion information and allows a maximum of two companions on this pathway; the Immigration Department lists husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, grandfather, grandmother, sibling, nurse or domestic helper as companion categories. [14]

Each eVisa application is assessed on its individual merit. The High Commission, Embassy or Consulate may seek additional information at any stage of processing. The Immigration Department of Malaysia ties processing to payment and a complete submission and accepts a valid eVisa printout or digital eVisa at entry. Receiving an application does not guarantee issuance, and approval does not guarantee entry, which remains at the entry officer’s discretion. [13] [15]
